Why You Need an Automatic Transfer Switch

Why Every Business Needs an Automatic Transfer Switch for their Backup Generator

An automatic transfer switch is one of the most important components to your backup generator. The reason you have a generator is to ensure your business has emergency power. However, if you don’t have an automatic transfer switch, you will still experience costly delays in regaining power.

Why should you use an automatic transfer switch?

1. Safety

First and foremost, safety is always top of mind for a business owner. Manually turning on your generator, or any source of power, can be dangerous. All of your employees could be at risk of injury, especially if it’s dark, there’s incremental weather, and/or it’s hard to access your generator. It’s much safer to have the process run completely autonomously.

2. Reliability

There’s no question that a power outage can and will decrease your productivity. You can experience costly delays to your infrastructure if the power suddenly goes off, putting your team weeks behind. If you have an automatic transfer switch (ATS), though, you won’t need to worry about that. An ATS gives you uninterrupted power, which is especially important for businesses like hospitals, restaurants, government buildings, schools, etc.

3. Simplicity

Of course, the best part is the simplicity. You don’t have to raise a finger, and neither does anyone on your staff. Just make sure that you’re actively maintaining your backup generator. If you do, then you will automatically have temporary power, even during a power outage.

Do you have an automatic transfer switch on your backup generator? If not, we highly recommend that you get one for your construction site. Save yourself the trouble during emergency power outages.

Why should you opt for the AMF panel?

Now that you’re convinced that you need an automatic transfer switch, the next obvious step is to ensure you have an AMF panel. An AMF panel is responsible for starting your backup generator when there’s a power outage and will ensure that you have uninterrupted power.

The automatic transfer switch and the AMF panel work together to sense when the main power fails and start the backup generator.

The AMF panel and automatic transfer switch work by:

  • Monitoring incoming AC main supply
  • Activating backup generator when the main power fails
  • Automatically transferring electrical load to generator

How to keep a motor running even when power supply is cut off?

Not to be redundant, but by now you should know that the only way to ensure uninterruptible power is through an AMF panel and automatic transfer switch. The only requirement is that you will need to maintain your backup generator to guarantee temporary power.

It’s vital that your business doesn’t lose power during a power outage. Not only will it decrease your productivity, but you can experience costly delays. Instead of dealing with the hassle, install an automatic transfer switch and AMF panel.
