Part of any industrial/commercial generator maintenance plan should include at a minimum, an annual load bank test. Load banks allow generators to be tested at their rated capacity. You may ask why this is important if your critical load doesn't equal your commercial generator's capacity. The simple answer to this is you can't predict how your generator will react in an emergency unless it is run to its rated load and given the opportunity to perform.
The problem that exists with many stand by industrial power generator applications is that they are not run like the engine was built to. Since they sit in a stand by application most of the time they can "Wet Stack", this condition can lead to a motor that can pre-maturely fail or cause serious engine damage. It is for this reason that the motor needs to go through an extensive load test beyond simple exercising or doing a transfer to building load.
When a building load is used for load tests you are always placing the critical load at risk, in some applications this may be acceptable but if you lack redundancy this can be a high-risk transfer. In addition, typical building loads are not going to equal the total load capacity of the industrial power generator, and thus are not going to fully test the engine.
It is important to allow the engine the opportunity to burn off built-up "wet stack" and fully come up to temperature through a full load. Power Plus provides:

One of the most overlooked areas in any critical power system usually is the switchgear. Just like any electrical system, it is crucial to maintain your switchgear with regular maintenance. While switchgear may not have the requirements of annual maintenance, it is important to consider the criticality of the systems supported by the switchgear and determine the effects of a failure. Many of these switchgear failures can be catastrophic when they occur, resulting in long lead times and very high costs. In addition, they have many elements that affect life safety that need to be considered as well.
Power Plus provides varying scopes of commercial generator repair services to maintain the uptime and reliability of your switchgear and ATS equipment. We provide industrial breaker maintenance, injection testing, thermography, IR Scanning, coordination studies, arc flash hazard analyses and breaker change out service, in order to maintain the reliability of your systems. One of the best ways to prevent system problems and costly repairs is to have a planned commercial generator maintenance schedule. Inspections can catch things like fluid leaks, low oil levels, and low batteries before they become a hazard or serious problem. A quick visual inspection is often enough to know what kind of commercial generator repair might be needed. A technician can take a look at hoses, radiator caps, and belts and tell you which areas might be system vulnerabilities for your commercial generator.
Planned maintenance will often include some of the following:
Fluid changes are important in any kind of machinery, but especially so in generators. Oil ensures all the moving parts in an engine are properly lubricated, and that includes the generator. An old oil filter can cause low oil pressure, which leads to increased wear and tear on the engine. A fuel system cleaning as part of your industrial generator repair will remove any dirt or debris that might have built up over time and is causing problems with your generator.Get Your Quote Now!
