Paradise California fire base camps to house workers in the clean up phase of the disaster relief.

Power Plus Provides Disaster Relief for Paradise California Fire

The clean up for the Paradise California fire is underway. Burning for more than two weeks from November 8-25 last year, the fire wreaked havoc in the city of Paradise, destroying 18,000 structures with damage totaling $16.5 billion.

During the clean up phase, there are 3,000+ workers that are living in base camps in the city. According to The Sacramento Bee, “the scene in the Butte County hills resembles a military operation. Base camps house workers – with mess halls, showers and laundry facilities – so workers from around the state and possibly from outside California don’t compete for limited housing with local residents.”

Our job at Power Plus?

To provide electrical power and equipment for those base camps.

Pro tip: When disaster strikes, Power Plus is ready to provide disaster assistance and emergency power. We can provide temporary power and rental generators for extended periods of time, so don’t hesitate to give us a call.

Disaster Relief for Paradise California Fire Underway

To support the Paradise California fire disaster relief, we are providing power for the three base camps that are housing 3,000+ workers.

Each base camp has different temporary power needs:

  • Paradise Tuscan Ridge Base Camp – This camp accommodates 1,500 workers and needed power for 231 sleeper trailers, two large industrial equipped kitchen and dining complexes, laundry facilities, large recreation facility with weights and treadmills, first aid building, office building and warehouse building. To power this whole base camp, we brought 7,000 amps of 480v power to the site (this is enough to power approximately 4,200 homes). Powering this camp required temporary power poles and wiring, underground utilities, generators (until we had the grid power installed), engineering and coordination with PG&E, transformers, switchgear, and more.
  • Feather River Base Camp – This camp also accommodates 1,500 workers and needed power for 36 trailer groups (each containing 8 sleeper trailers), and other various support buildings. To power this base camp, we delivered 2,000 amps of 480v power because this was all the power that was available from the PG&E substation where we accessed power. We used a variety of our temporary power solutions, including traditional temporary power poles and wiring, underground utilities, generators (until temporary power was set up), engineering and coordination with PG&E, transformers, switchgear, and more.
  • Oroville Base Camp – This camp accommodates over 300 people, and needed power for 50 trailers, plus other support buildings. To power this base camp, we delivered 1,000 amps of 480v power to the site. Powering this camp required a combination of traditional temporary power poles and wiring, plus using generators. Even though the temporary power set up is finished, we still have some employees on the construction site to help with any service needs in order to keep the system operational.

Overall, our disaster relief temporary power system for Paradise will be operational for at least nine – 12 months during the clean up phase. The Sacramento Bee reports that the fire left behind five million tons of ash, steel, seared concrete, and debris, which is by far the most extensive disaster relief clean up the state has dealt with.

Power Plus! is a leading provider of reliable temporary power and non-radioactive power generators across the United States and Canada.
