JT Packard - UPS Field Engineer - Multiple Locations

We are currently looking for Field Engineers in the following locations: Northern California, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Dallas, Milwaukee/Madison, Chicago, Boston, Buffalo and the New York Metro area.

This person will be responsible for ongoing maintenance and repair of contracted and non-contracted three phase high-voltage UPS power and power distribution equipment. Additionally, this position is responsible for technical support to customers on operational or maintenance aspects. This position involves preventative and emergency maintenance on a 24/7 on-call basis with regional responsibility.

JT Packard offers a competitive salary, paid vacation, and comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision and a 401K plan. Overnight travel is minimal and work weeks are 40 hours on average. This individual will work from home when not on a customer site and will be provided with a monthly auto allowance.

Qualifications:
This position requires 3-5 years of field experience in UPS, battery technologies or electronics. Ideal candidates will have an Associates degree in electronics repair or a related field, a Bachelors degree is preferred. Factory training in the repair and maintenance in one, or several leading UPS brands is highly desired along with field technician or related military experience. Candidates must have the ability to read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals, electric and electronic schematics, and policies and procedures; demonstrate an understanding of single phase and three phase circuit theory and AC/DC circuit theory; be proficient in the use of test equipment . Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required along with the ability to deal with customers where tact may be required. PC fluency is highly desired with specific attention to e-mail and Microsoft Office product skills.



Power Plus - Level 2 Generator Service Technician - Houston, TX

We are looking for a Level II Generator Service Technician who is a well motivated individual with excellent communication skills and is also able to explain maintenance issues to customers as well as facilitate repairs.  This qualified individual should have several years experience in the generator industry or like military experience and be able to perform tasks with minimal supervison.  A Level II Generator Service Technician will be required to perform service and maintenance on machines ranging from 5kw to 2000kw.
 

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Work in shop and field as jobs requires.
  • Perform engine services, load testing, ATS testing and repair, read and decipher electrical and mechanical drawings, troubleshoot diesel and gaseous fuel systems, perform engine repairs, both minor and major, generator end testing and repairs, complete system evaluations and share technical information and life experiences with fellow techs.
  • All technicians will be required to work some irregular hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Participation in after hours on call pager rotation is required.
  • Occasional out of town travel with overnight stay is required.

Requirements:

  • Tech should be able to demonstrate basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have positive attitude and willingness to help customers to resolve any maintenance issues while representing power plus in a positive manor.
  • Tech should be in good physical condition and show mechanical and electrical aptitude, have some past experience in mechanical and electrical fields.
  • Technical schooling, automotive or transportation fields, commercial, residential electric and or like military experience are preferred.
  • Must have basic hand tools i.e. socket and wrench sets, standard and metric . Basic screw drivers, allen wrenches, pliers and crimpers ect. Tech should understand basic tool functions, including safe and proper operation.
  • Must show a desire and willingness learn and use new technologies.

Power Plus - Generator Technician Level 3 - Bakersfield, CA

The Level III Generator Service Tech is a journeyman in the power generation field.  This individual will have at least one, if not several decades of field experience as well as certifications of training from several engine and generator manufactures. Extensive experience and training on transfer switches, both automatic and static, multiple unit paralleling and utility paralleling systems. A Level three technician will have excellent communication skill and be mindful of customer needs in relation to power generation.  A Level III Generator Service Tech will be required to perform service and maintenance on machines ranging from 5kw to 2000kw.

Responsibilities:
  • Engine maintenance and troubleshooting for all fuel types, repairs as well as major overhaul of all engine types and manufacturer.
  • Advanced troubleshooting of generator ends, including harmonics and compatibility issues.
  • Troubleshoot and repair all types of ATS and paralleling systems.
  • Troubleshoot distribution and utility gear.
  • Understand thermal dynamics and pressures as the relate to cooling and heating systems. Must be able to use latest technology in diagnostics and repair.
  • Facilitate repairs with improvised parts when factory parts are unavailable.
  • Perform field engineering changes when conditions mandate.
  • Stay informed of the latest published technology as it relates to the generator field.
  • Must have the resource of being able to discuss abstract and complicated problems with peers in the industry.
  • Have the desire and ability to mentor other technicians and share knowledge.
  • All technicians will be required to work some irregular hours, weekends and holidays as well as participate in an on call pager rotation.
  • Occasional out of town travel with an overnight stay will be required.
  • Diagnose engine and electrical component / attachment problems. Read / interpret engineered drawings, blue prints and schematics. Recognize, diagnose and source replacement parts and install a complete package generator set and peripheral equipment from materials supplied by engineering department.
  • Work primarily off-site with minimum supervision. Properly use diagnostic tooling and literature to troubleshoot machine systems and components.
  • Work with and direct other mechanics and apprentices to provide timely high quality repairs. Complete service reports accurately and legibly. Safely operate heavy equipment, forklifts and mobile cranes according to OSHA regulations. Effectively diagnose, repair, adjust and recondition diesel engines, engine systems and components.
  • Apply basic warranty understanding to diagnostic and repair process. Complete assigned forms related to job. Utilize computer system to research engine information and to diagnose and monitor engine systems. Maintain flat-rate accountability. Maintain a problem solving attitude while dealing with adversity
  • Work closely with customers, Parts department and multiple branches. Must be flexible as hours of shift will vary and weekend on-call by rotation. Open, review and close work orders. Monitor work in progress. Work closely with Parts and Sales Departments and customers. Assist Service Manager as required.
  • Service Department. Help monitor workforce and shop operations. Help schedule service work with the ability to supervise and coordinate workflow. Technical knowledge of power generation. Detail and results oriented, able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements:
  • Accountable for quality measurements. Accurately evaluate parts reusability and perform repairs in accordance with manufacture guidelines. Ability to follow established policies and procedures.
